Croatia lies across the sparkling Adriatic from Italy with over 5000 kilometres of stunning sunny coastline including more than 1000 pretty Islands. Our destination for JEC Croatia is the Island of Krk, in the Kvarner region. The journey to Croatia promises to be a journey of discovery as we will be travelling overnight on the German railways using Motorail.
Itinerary:
Thursday 9th September Depart Dover for Calais at the time of your choice using P&O Ferries for the onwards journey and our overnight stop in the German town of Monchengladbach. A buffet dinner has been organised for this evening. Approximate driving distance; 240 miles
Friday 10th September After a leisurely breakfast depart Monchengladbach and make our way to Dusseldorf for the 13.30hrs check in at the Motorail terminal. Prior to check in you may wish to visit the unusual Meilenwerk car collection in Düsseldorf (www.meilenwerk.de). Lunch can be recommended in their excellent restaurant. Overnight aboard the Düsseldorf – Villach (Austria) motorail service in twin bedded compartments. Approximate driving distance; 20 miles
Saturday 11th September Arrive early morning in Villach for a leisurely drive from Austria through Slovenia and in to Croatia before crossing on to the beautiful Island of Krk. Our stay for the next 7 nights will be at a new 4 Star hotel close to the small village of Malinska. Approximate driving distance; 170 miles
Sunday 12th – Friday 17th September For the next six days it is possible to relax around the pool or explore the region and islands of Kvarner and Istria.
An introduction to the the Istrian & Kvarner Rivieras The Istria & Kvarner Riveras are in the North of Croatia, with spectacular shorelines consisting of numerous bays, islands and coves with pebble beaches and rocky outcrops.
The Island of Krk The island of Krk is located in the bay of Kvarner. It is one of the largest islands in the Adriatic. Its picturesque beaches and coves, diversity of nature and rich cultural heritage make it a special destination. It is well known for its home-cooked specialities, famous wines, rich vegetation, & crystal clear sea.
The Islands of Cres, Losinj, Rab, Unije and Susak The other Kvarner islands are all within a short boat journey or two away from the island of Krk and all offer interesting villages, fantastic views and spectacular beaches to visit.
Saturday 18th September After breakfast depart the hotel and head back to Villach for the 18.30hrs check in at the Motorail terminal and the overnight Motorail journey back to Dusseldorf. Twin bedded compartments have been reserved for the return journey. Approximate driving distance; 170 miles
Sunday 19th September Arrive in Dusseldorf at 10.00hrs for the journey back to Calais and the channel crossing with P&O Ferries before returning home. Approximate driving distance; 260 miles
