Dates for the Le Mans 24 Hours 2012 are now confirmed

Today the Automobile Club de L'Ouest confirmed the dates for the Le Mans 24 hours 2012. The race will take place a week later than normally scheduled on the 16th & 17th June 2012.

2012 will see the 80th running of the Le Mans 24 Hours and will now be the feature race of the new FIA World Endurance Championship. The new dates of the Le Mans 24 Hours were settled in conjuction with other sporting calendars to ensure that there are no clashes and that the best drivers and teams will be available to participate in the race. The full calendar for the championship is expected to be announced in September at the Silverstone round of the ILMC.

A test day for all the teams will also take place on the Le Mans circuit on the 3rd June 2012.

The sports manager of the ACO, Vincent Beaumesnil, said "In 2011, the test day was held on 24th April due to the introduction of the new regulations, which meant that manufacturers had to build new cars for the LMP1 and LMP2 categories. It was essential to allow them to test their cars on the 24-Hours circuit well before the race itself. This time, in agreement with the entrants, it has been decided to organize the test day again because of its technical and sporting utility, but shortly before the event to minimize its budgetary impact on the teams and organizers."
